History

After three years of teaching dance at TLC Dance Academy in Brooks, Alberta, and volunteering in the Grasslands Junior High and High School Dance programs, Kaleesha Christensen decided it was the right time to pursue her long-time dream of owning and operating her own dance facility. Within 3 months of making the decision to venture out on her own, her vision became a reality. In September 2005, she opened, In Sequins… Studio of Dance in a quaint little basement space located in the heart of Brooks’ City Centre.

The studio opened under the pretense that it would be a recreational facility only, with students annually attending the local music festival and then performing a year-end recital for family and friends. It was Kaleesha’s goal to attract at least 50 students, in that first year. Much to everyone’s surprise, Kaleesha’s included, 107 fulltime students joined the studio and there was enough interest that a small competitive team was formed.

By the fall of 2008, the studio’s enrollment numbers had grown so much that Kaleesha was forced to turn inquiring students/families away. After early registration in the summer of 2009, it was apparent that the studio needed a second classroom before the new dance season started in the fall. With her student population more than double the initial numbers, she investigated relocating to a bigger facility. Unfortunately, with time and funds both limited, she opted for opening a satellite facility. For the next two years, the studio operated from the original location and from a facility located across the street; all the while, the quest for a new and affordable building continued. Finally, in October 2010, Kaleesha secured the cornerstone building at 928 – 2nd Street East. After the 2010~2011 dance year came to a close, renovations began and the building was converted from a retail location to an amazing recreational facility.

"I would like to acknowledge the studio’s past, present and future dancers and their families.  I recognize that without all of you, none of this would be possible. Thank you for being a part of In Sequins and for helping to fulfill my dream."
